On Thursday, October 17th, the Department of Anthropology and International Development hosted a lecture byTynymgul Eshieva,assistant professor at the JMC Department and a communications consultant. The event, titled *“Strategic Communications and Its Role in Driving Social Change,”* explored how effective communication strategies foster societal transformation, especially in international development and humanitarian efforts.

Eshieva emphasized the importance ofclear, culturally sensitive messaging in building public trust, mobilizing communities, and driving behavior change. She shared examples of how nonprofits and governments use strategic communications to address issues like public health and human rights while highlighting the impact ofsocial media in amplifying marginalized voices.

The session also addressed challenges such as misinformation and the need formedia literacy in today’s digital landscape. During the interactive Q&A, participants discussedpost-conflict recovery and aligning communications withsustainable development goals (SDGs).
