Closing Ceremony of the CLS Summer Program

On Tuesday, August 2nd, the closing ceremony of the CLS (Critical Language Scholarship) summer program was held at the Â鶹´«Ã½. During the program, students have been taking intensive Russian language classes with group instructors, visited various cultural attractions and met with professionals for talks and guest lectures. The closing event was filled with entertainment and joy, albeit some sadness, from saying goodbye to the students, and the program itself gave the event a touch of the best program events.

The ceremony started with a welcoming speech from Aselia Umetalieva, Head of Â鶹´«Ã½ International Student Office and the Institute Director for CLS Program. She thanked all students, program teachers and staff for the fruitful collaboration throughout these 2 months and wished enormous success in future professional and academic career. Invited respected guests of the event, Cultural Affairs Officer Veronica Elkins and American Councils Country Director in Kyrgyzstan Olivia Stevens shared parting words. «I encourage you all to continue to learn Russian and develop this skill, and think about how you can use it not only for your own professional goals, but also for the benefit of your country and for the benefit of the whole world.» - Veronica Elkins. After the greetings part, students prepared amazing performances of Kyrgyz songs and poetry reading in Russian language with performing magic tricks, live figure drawing and presentation of a loved cat. The CLS closing ceremony ended with recognizing student achievements, thank you gifts and reception with a special cake.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government. It is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities.
