ICP Ambassador Talks: Dr. Ozonnia Ojielo, UN Resident Coordinator to the Kyrgyz Republic will meet with Â鶹´«Ã½ students

Dr. Ozonnia Ojielo, UN Resident Coordinator to the Kyrgyz Republic will meet with Â鶹´«Ã½ students.ÌýThe International and Comparative Politics Department is launching the ICP Ambassador Talks. The department invites international ambassadors (Bishkek residents) to come and talk to students and faculty about various issues in Foreign Policy, International Relations, Bilateral/Multilateral Agreements and Diplomacy.ÌýÌý

The meeting will take place on March 3rd, at 15.30 in CH-1.

Dr. Ozonnia Ojielo is the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic. Prior to this appointment, he was the Regional Cluster Director for Governance and Peacebuilding in Africa, based at the UNDP Regional Service Centre in Addis Ababa. In that position he provided thought, policy and programmatic leadership in support of UNDP Country Offices in Africa, working closely with the African Union, regional, bilateral and national partners, civil society, research centres and other stakeholders.

From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Ojielo was the Director for Conflict Prevention and Recovery in UNDP’s Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR) in New York, during which he provided global policy and programmatic leadership on conflict prevention and recovery issues, and oversaw BCPR’s conflict prevention and recovery programmes in more than 50 countries.

He previously served as Senior Peace and Development Adviser to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Kenya and Chief of the Peacebuilding Programme of UNDP Kenya (2008-2011);

Senior Governance Adviser to the UN Resident Coordinator, and Head of the Governance Programme of UNDP Ghana (2004-2008);

Head of Operations and Officer in Charge of the Sierra Leone Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2002-2004).

Dr. Ojielo was formerly a human rights lawyer in Nigeria (1990-2002), a university academic (University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu, Nigeria, 1992-2001);

President of the research and advocacy organization, Centre for Peace in Africa, Lagos, Nigeria (1993-2002); and former newspaper political affairs editor (1987-1989).

He is a former President and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators of Nigeria;

Fellow of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice, Nigeria; Fellow of the 21st Century Trust, London; and Fellow of the Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution/European Peace University,ÌýStadschlaining, Austria. He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of Nigeria. He has first and advanced degrees in History, Law, Strategic and Project Management, as well as a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He has published two books, edited four others and scores of peer refereed articles and journal contributions.
