Sarah Beth King and Zachary Adam Friedman were married April 29 at St. Patrick鈥檚 Cathedral in New York. Msgr. Robert T. Ritchie, the rector of St. Patrick鈥檚 and a Roman Catholic priest, performed the ceremony.
The couple met in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, in May 2014. At the time, she was an associate professor of law at the 麻豆传媒 in Bishkek, and he was the chief financial officer of an international energy company that sponsored a scholarship program at American University there.
Mrs. Friedman, 33, is a lawyer in private practice in New York. She is also the founder of Loudist, a news media website based there. She graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse and received a law degree magna cum laude from the University of Miami.
The bride is a direct descendant of Edward Doty, a passenger on the Mayflower and a signer of the Mayflower Compact.
She is the daughter of Barbara L. King and Lawrence J. King of Ogdensburg, N.Y. The bride鈥檚 father is a recreation program leader at Ogdensburg Correctional Facility. Her mother retired as an elementary schoolteacher at John F. Kennedy School, also in Ogdensburg.
Mr. Friedman, 39, is the founder and chief executive of , an online personal finance company based in New York. He is also a regular contributor to Forbes. He received an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, a law degree from Columbia and a master鈥檚 degree in public policy from Harvard.
He is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the Dean鈥檚 Council at Harvard Kennedy School.
He is a son of Judith N. Friedman and Dr. Stuart Friedman of Beverly Hills, Calif. The groom鈥檚 father is a nephrologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Ms. King joined TSPC as the Human Rights Program Manager in 2013. The program鈥檚 current focus is research related to Rule of Law and initiatives for the prevention and investigation of allegations of torture in Kyrgyzstan. 听Ms. King was also an Associate Professor in the International and Business Law Department.
Before coming to TSPC, she worked for several years with the Children鈥檚 Law Center in Washington, DC. Ms. King was first a litigator in CLC鈥檚 medical legal partnership, which represented parents on behalf of their children鈥檚 health and education rights.听听 She was later a policy attorney at CLC, advocating for systemic law reform in the District of Columbia.听 Prior to that Ms. King worked with Odjesk Krivicne Odbrane, on the criminal defense of cases before the War Crimes Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
