‘Reimagining Civil Society in a Period of “Uncivil Societies” Conference at 鶹ý

On March 24 to 25, 2017,the 鶹ý (鶹ý) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, hosted the conference ‘Reimagining Civil Society in a Period of “Uncivil Societies”. Out of dozens of submitted abstracts, 20 works were selected to present at the conference. Academic scholars and activists from Central Asia, the United States, United Kingdom, Chilie, and many other countries of Europe.
It has convened a trans-disciplinary conversation about the role and place of civil society, in particular in the 21stCentury. Through looking at civil society in the 21stCentury, the conference particularly interrogated the relation between the local and global, and the ways that civil society has played particular roles in challenging as well as advancing globalization and cosmopolitanism. This conference had a number of streams, such asCivil Society Beyond Public Politics,Centering Kyrgyzstan's and Central Asian's Perspectives on Civil Society, Media and Citizenship, Gender and Sexuality, Prefigurative Politics, Memory and Remembering,and roundtable panel of experts in civil society from around Kyrgyzstan lead by INTRAC.
