Â鶹´«Ã½ CASE CLUB

February 20, 2017

ÌýOne of the aspects that sets the Â鶹´«Ã½ experience apart from other universities in the region is the wealth of extracurricular opportunities available to students. Not only are there numerous longstanding organizations on campus that operate in such diverse areas as student dance and theater, young entrepreneurship, and sports; but also the opportunity for students to pursue their own unique interests by creating own Student Club. Azatbek Ismailov, the head of Â鶹´«Ã½ Case Club told us about this club, its main purpose and activities:

Please represent yourself

My name is Azatbek Ismailov and currently I am junior student of BA department and president of Â鶹´«Ã½ Case Club. I have a deep passion in solving problems and generating creative ideas. Thus, I found that I have an aspiration in cracking cases. After graduation, I have a desire to work in consulting sphere and Â鶹´«Ã½ Case Club is giving me a great opportunity to reach my goal.

Please tell about your student club and it’s goal?

Â鶹´«Ã½ Case Club was established in May 2016. In brief, it’s main goal was (and still remains the same) to create a platform, where students could gather and improve their case solving skills by working on various business cases and by participating at international case competitions. Currently, we have almost 35 members, who aspire to build successful career in management consulting, investment banking and other related spheres. Indeed, an ability to analyze any situation from various angles and make rational decision is useful not only in building a professional career, but in personal life as well.
Please share the history of your club

Being students of Business Administration department, we have chosen our future career paths in management consulting. In our 3rd year of study, our team started to participate in followingÌý case championships as Changellenge, KPMG Case Cup and PwC case cups that are organized in Russia and Kazakhstan. Being a finalist for several times, we understood that such case cups provide great opportunities to hone case solving skills while working on real life business cases. After that we decided to establish Â鶹´«Ã½ Case Club which will create a platform where students may broaden their knowledge, acquire new skills and simply get ready for international case competitions afterwards to get into leading consulting companies.Ìý

What are the main activities?

Our Case Club management board designed a specific program that helps students to get prepare into consulting world. Mainly, we have separated them into several parts as:

  • case interview
  • team based case
  • workshop on specific framework and industry
  • guest speakers

How do you contribute to Â鶹´«Ã½ community

Our club’s activities are more oriented for professional development, especially in consulting. Students who are willing to pursue their careers in consulting are actively attending our meetings. In our club students learn to think systematically, defend their opinions orally in front of jury, make professional presentations and think out of box while developing solutions for cases.
ÌýHow many people do you have

We’ve got around 30 members.

Please share the recent brightest activities/events of your club

We’ve conducted several championships in partnership with BizExpert in Â鶹´«Ã½, which is soon going to grow bigger scale and embrace whole city. Besides, currently we’re organizing internal mini cups to identify the best team, which is going to participate in international case championship in Hong Kong.
Tell about your future plans, upcoming events of the club

There are short-term and long-term plans for the growth of our club. Short term plan is to organize more internal case competitions in order to get prepared for upcoming international case cups in Kazakhstan and Russia. One of the long term goals is to organize Case Competition among universities Bishkek, which will be a good catalyst for Â鶹´«Ã½ Case Club growth and public awareness.

What would you suggest to the students of Â鶹´«Ã½

Well, I would suggest them to apply for case competitions. For example, there are many case cups conducted by leading companies. Of course, they’ll be organized in Russia and Kazakhstan, but Â鶹´«Ã½ students can register online and receive cases. Then, the smartest and lucky teams, will be invited to Almaty or Moscow to participate at pre-final and final stages. By participating in case competitions, students will not only get an incredible solving case experience, but also an opportunity to meet with representatives of well-known companies, who are looking for smart and talented students, I would also suggest to join our Case Club to get ready for those case competitions.
